GEVEY Ultra is a new iPhone 4 unlock SIM that doesn’t require dialing 112 emergency number. All you need is this custom SIM card and 15 minutes of your time to have your iPhone 4 permanently unlocked, on any baseband, running any firmware, up to iOS 5!
GEVEY is a company that manufactures custom SIM cards that streamline this process. This method works with all released version of iOS 4, as well as iOS 5 beta, with basebands 1.59, 2.10, 3.10.1, 4.10 and 4.10.1. If you’re willing to spend some money, this can be more suitable than a software unlock.
If you’ve been reading this blog, you might have already heard of a previous version of GEVEY, which we reported on earlier this year. This updated method streamlines the process, by requiring less setup after the card is inserted: you won’t, for example, have to call 112 for this hack to work, which should address any legality issues.
You’ll need:
- A jailbroken iPhone 4 running Cydia (you’ll need this to install a tweak before this process begins)
- GEVEY Ultra SIM card (will soon be available from here)
- Some knowledge on how the iPhone works.
Setting it up:
Step 1: Remove your SIM card, by inserting a paper clip into the pinhole next to your SIM slot, and cut it to fit the tray that should come with the GEVEY package. Never cut into the circuitry.
Step 2: Launch Cydia and add the following repository: cydia.furiousmod.com. Then locate the "FuriousMod" package and install it. After that’s done, a "No SIM card installed" error will pop up, that’s OK. Before proceeding, make sure your phone is turned off.
Step 3: Place the GEVEY SIM on the tray, along with your own SIM on top of it. Make sure both cards are on the tray, then insert it back into your phone.
Step 4: Power your phone back on and wait around 40 seconds for your signal to be detected. Ignore any errors and don’t interact with the device until your phone picks up the signal.
Step 5: In order to get 3G, turn on Roaming Mode by going into Settings > General > Network and selecting "Data Roaming".
You’re Done!
ApplenBerry, GEVEY’s distributors, has released a video showcasing this hack:
This new SIM will be available "really soon", according to ApplenBerry, although no release date has been set. Also, keep in mind that some knowledge on modifying your iPhone is highly advised, or else you’ll run the risk of permanently damaging it. We’ll update this article once the hardware is released.
UPDATE 1: GEVEY Ultra SIM is now available for $39.99. More info here.
