Albert (game)

Albert: Cardboard Style

One of the best things about the iPhone are the apps of course. Since there are more games than any other category it’s safe to assume that the games are a favorite of most. The best apps are those that offer something different all around.

Albert: 5 out of 5!

Albert certainly does that, and more. The first thing you’ll probably notice when you begin to play Albert are the graphics. Some developers choose to hand draw their graphics. The developers of this game took an entirely different approach to graphics. If they look like cardboard cutouts, that’s because that’s exactly what they are. 1000 pieces of cardboard, sliced, glued and pieced together in an animated style to be exact. There are even holographic effects. Talk about unique. The sound effects are pretty cool as well, and will have you uninterested in playing without the sound on after not so long. Lots of different sound effects, from musical instruments to animal sounds, all wrapped up with a catchy beat. Pretty original if you ask me; something that stands out for sure.

Look past the amazingly original graphics that were made with care, Albert is really a simple game made up of 14 well designed mini-games that make up the weird little life of main character Albert. The games range from shutting off a bunch of alarm clocks by hitting them so that Albert can get back to sleep, to jumping over head on traffic with your car that has feet instead of tires (it’s almost like the Flintstones, no?). There’s even a part where you use the iPhone mic to call your dog to keep him from falling in the river, or using the accelerometer part of the phone to get the soap into Albert’s bath. The mini games range from the highly interesting (such as calling the dog) to maybe a bit boring (the soap), and some require much more imagination than others. The developers have promised more games if interest stays high on this game, so hopefully they will create some more to keep things looking up for Albert. This is probably not a game that will be the next big thing, but it could be pretty high up on the list if enough people know about it. It’s well thought out and especially visually appealing. The sound doesn’t hurt either.

All in all, if you want something that is refreshingly unique, creative and highly addicting, this is one game I would strongly recommend trying.
